Felted Raccoon Mask
This piece of art can be worn as a mask or hung on the wall!
Handmade in Grand Marais, MN by Marlys Johnson
Shepherding a small flock of sheep in the 1990’s was the beginning of Marlys’ love affair with wool. Drawn to the flexibility, surprises and textile immersion of the felting process, she was hooked. Mostly self-taught, Marlys has had opportunities to study with internationally renowned felt artists. From 2 dimensional and functional work, Marlys is now combining wet felting and needle felting techniques to create three dimensional, sculptural work. The masks shown at The Big Lake are inspired by the many children Marlys has taught to felt over 25 years and her current residence in Cook County.
