It is true that the vast majority of the artists we carry are either from the North Shore or the state of Minnesota. However, early on in our planning, Sam and I decided against the idea of making a rule to only carry local and regional artists in our shop. Why? Well, we realized that our North Shore culture, that culture which is our goal to reflect in the offerings of The Big Lake, a culture of Northern living with forest-centric and active outdoor lifestyles at its core, is not by any means exclusive to Grand Marais and the North Shore. Through traveling, artist led connections and chance encounters we have built an impressive array of artists here at the shop. All of whom give us the incredibly unique, exciting and beautiful energy of Lake Superior and the great wilderness that surrounds us.
With all of that being said, today I have the great pleasure of introducing to you a fast becoming favorite of The Big Lake family, Jahna Vashti!!!
Day Three - Jahna Vashti
An incredible painter with delightful energy, Jahna Vashti is the type of artist who can inspire you to do anything, to feel energetic and free, all by simply looking at one of her joyful paintings. It is impossible to look at “Je Ne Sais Quoi” or “Swept Off Her Feet” without feeling a great rush of warmth and memories of sweet moments spent with loved ones.
"Je Ne Sais Quoi"
"Swept Off Her Feet"
"The Waltz of Winter" reminds me of my absolute favorite work team. With such focus, strength, creativity and FUN we could do anything, and look reeaaaal good doing it! Do you have a group of friends, family or co-workers who this print reminds you of?

I’m so glad I decided to visit your wonderful store. I was drawn to several artists you carry but fell in love with Jahna’s whimsical pieces. It took me about 15 minutes to decide which print to purchase, I wanted them all. I decided on “The Waltz of Winter”. I noticed the color changing weasel as well! Her art just makes me smile.
