Day Ten: A Forest Fairy Tale

When I introduced “Snow & Rose,” a forest fairy tale, a few weeks back on social media, I could never have expected the strong reaction it provoked from our followers. People went wild for this book. We sold out on two separate occasions! One thing is for sure, the book, its story and epic illustrations, has hit a chord with our Big Lake fans.

Written by Emily Winfield Martin, “Snow & Rose” is story is of two sisters searching for their father who had disappeared into the forest years ago. Their adventure leads them through the enchanted woods and introduces the reader to creatures friendly, curious and sinister.

This book is absolutely incredible. The gorgeous illustrations are such a gift. The story is captivating, sweet and exciting. Based off of the Brothers Grimm tale, Snow & Rose takes on a life of its own.

With full color illustrations throughout the entire chapter book, you will be hard pressed to put this beauty down before you reach the last page.

Maybe one of the reasons this book is so popular with our Big Lake readers, is because of the desire in each of us to have a deep connection with the forest. Or perhaps even more deeply, we feel a desire for our children to live a life rich with forest experiences and memories.

We value outdoor education, appreciation of our wooded surroundings and connection to the forest on a level of almost fairy tale proportions.

What better gift this holiday season than “Snow & Rose.” A gift of storytelling. A gift of art. A gift of wonder.

You could even add in some peppering of handmade gifts your own little Snow or Rose may enjoy. Thoughtful presents that may bring them closer to their own forest fairy tale imaginations. Perhaps some birch bark bobby pins, or twig earrings?

If you’d like to stay on the Emily Winfield Martin theme, we have beautiful prints available of her work on our website, including a young woman in a red coat, exploring the forest with woodland creatures by her side.
Enjoy the day my dear forest friends!
Sincerely,
Abby & The Big Lake Family
