Day Four: A Sawtooth Mountain Man

I’ve got nothing against a Rocky Mountain Man, but my heart lies with the Sawtooth kind. We all have one in our life, don’t we? Whether a partner, brother, father or friend, he loves to ski, fish, hike, bike and camp. Preferring to do most of these activities with family and friends, he also enjoys time alone in his North Woods. The Sawtooth Mountain Man is a keeper. He is also extremely difficult to shop for. Probably because he genuinely would prefer time in BWCA to a tangible gift. That’s WONDERFUL! Especially since I think I speak for all my Sawtooth Mountain Ladies out there when I say we would prefer the same! So, here is my suggestion for all y’all, plan a surprise trip up North for your Sawtooth Mountain Man &/or Lady, and add small gifts from the suggestions below to complete your epic present! An unexpected bonus of these gifts is that they are NOT gender specific, so all will benefit from the beauty and fun they provide. Enjoy!

The Biker

Does your Sawtooth Mountain Man love to bike? Do YOU love to bike? Mountain biking has taken both Cook County and the entire North Shore by storm these past few years and we are all the better for it! Check out these bike themed Screenprints by Adam Turman below. Oh, and don't forget to register for the Lutsen 99er on June 23rd! Registration is open now, but act fast because this race sells out every year.

Does your biker prefer riding in the winter or summer? Doesn't matter! We have both covered!
If you find yourself up in this neck of the woods, make sure you stop by our local bike shop, The Fireweed Bike Coop. Owned and operated by our charismatic and bike-enthusiast Mayor, Jay Arrowsmith-Decoux! Stop by for tips on where to ride, trail conditions and more. You won't regret it.

The Fisherman

Does the Sawtooth Mountain Man on your holiday list enjoy fishing? Whether you prefer river fishing or big lake charters, we have some fun fish themed ideas to share.

How about this gorgeous fishing log from Rustico? We will be carrying these bad boys in a variety of leather shades in our brick & mortar shop, but for now you can stop on by their website to purchase one for your favorite fisherwoman/man.

Another idea for your water loving fella, is to gift him one of Hannah Palma's beautiful Moon & Waves mug. This gorgeous handmade mug has the moon and waves etched in the clay. She chooses the absolute best glazes and her handles are big enough for even the largest of grips. For the fisherman who is always thinking of the water, this will surely brighten his or her morning.

Interested in fly fishing? Whether you are an avid or novice fly fisher, be sure to check out Scott Sorenson of Fly Box & Company’s incredible store in Grand Marais and find out more about his guided services. From The Fly Box’s website:

The Deep Woods Enthusiast

Last but certainly not least, is the Sawtooth Mountain Man who enjoys spending time in the woods. Whether it’s a week long BWCA camping trip or a weekend spent at a cozy cabin up the Gunflint Trail, our deep woods enthusiasts love to spend time up in the middle of nowhere with only the people they love. The following are some gift ideas to bring the “north woods cabin” feel to your home all year long.

"MN Up North" by Mark Herman

There are some pieces of winter that I just can not live without. Don't you just feel so sad for folks who have never experienced a winter cabin vacation?

"Cabin Life" by Adam Turman

What could be better than sitting by the fire, listening to the fire crackle, drinking some delicious beer and playing cribbage with a loved one? Not much in my book.

"Symphony" by Benjamin Olson

Well, maybe the Northern Lights.... if we add the Northern Lights to the evening then it can not possibly be beat!

If you DO decide to gift a trip up north, be sure to consider coming up the first week in June! That is when we will be hosting our GRAND OPENING of The Big Lake :-) Hope to see you there.

Thanks for reading!
