On day seven of our Holiday Countdown, I thought it might be fun to introduce you all to my neighbor Chelsea Pusc, owner of The Gunflint Mercantile. Chelsea, who has supplied so many of our online shoppers with truffles and fudge these last few months, also happens to be our business partner. We co-own 12 First Avenue West!
In the winter of 2017, Chelsea, Sam and I were brought together by local realtor Terry Backlund to discuss the opportunity of purchasing 12 First Avenue West, the building Chelsea had been renting all these years, as a partnership.
We met, we clicked!
Three long, exciting, stressful months later, we closed on the building!
Originally from Danube, Minnesota, Chelsea went off to college in Rhode Island to study Marketing. Eventually she found her way back to Minnesota and waaaaay up the Gunflint Trail. Falling deeper and deeper in love with her north woods home, Chelsea took the leap to purchase the Mercantile in the winter of 2011.
Since opening her doors, Chelsea has expanded our little town’s candy market to include a seemingly endless variety of truffles, turtles, peanut butter cups and the county’s only made-from-scratch fudge. She even stirs each batch by hand using a wooden spoon.
Are you drooling? Wishing you were headed north to taste her chocolate and fudge? Fear not! The Gunflint Mercantile ships!
Not only does Chelsea sell super tasty treats, she also has some incredibly fun gifts and apparel. Also available on her website ;-)
I hope you’ve had fun getting to know our neighbor a bit better! She is the absolute best! When you come to visit us at The Big Lake, you will be hard pressed not to follow your nose to the delicious smells coming from Chelsea’s kitchen across the hall! On that note, wish me luck as I try NOT to indulge hourly in her free fudge samples :-)
